Pro Comfort’s Green Initiatives

Life and work are challenging enough without having to sweat or shiver through them. This is why a sound heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system is an essential component for every home or office. Yet in our desire for a comfortable indoor environment, we sometimes miss the side-effects imposed on nature and the atmosphere. After all, HVAC systems are energy intensive, meaning they consume more electricity and, at its origins, more fossil fuels. The good news is that the HVAC industry is increasingly taking green initiatives to act as better stewards of the earth. Pro Comfort Heating & Cooling is in the thick of it.

Repairs

When a heating or A/C unit breaks down, conditions inside can become insufferable. Pro Comfort provides prompt diagnosis repair service so the unit is up and running without further delay. This service is available for homes, retail spaces, offices and professional facilities. Furnaces and boilers are of special significance. Left unattended, a minor crack or abnormal rattle could become a much more serious — and expensive — problem to fix. Residents of Fort Wayne, Huntington and Columbia City know how cold Indiana winters get. Fortunately, Pro Comfort has a keen eye for those less obvious disorders that can blow up (literally!) into malfunctioning heating units. Things to stay on top of include:

  • Dust accumulation in air vents
  • Loud bangs or pops emanating from the furnace
  • A pervasive gaseous odor
  • Heat concentrating only in specific areas of the house/building
  • The presence of rust, fissures, and corrosion

Reaching out to an experienced and knowledgeable HVAC contractor will be the safest and most affordable course of action.

Installation

Whether for heating or air-conditioning, Pro Comfort is systematic and transparent when it comes to installation. The process begins with a site visitation and evaluation of the current HVAC operations. At this point, we recommend the services that best fit the customer’s needs. Yet we do not leave it there. As a Better Business Bureau-accredited firm, Pro Comfort shares all the costs involved with the proposal and works with the property owner to plan a schedule and budget so the project finishes on time and without breaking the bank.

We also offer heating & air conditioning green initiatives to our customers. In accordance with new regulations imposed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which ranks newly installed A/C units with SEER ratings. Referring to seasonal energy efficiency ratios, SEER ratings take A/C and heat pump cooling outputs over the warmest season — say five months, for example — and divide that figure by the energy they consume in kilowatt-hours (kW). Qualified SEER2 rankings range from 13 to 21. As one of our green initiatives, we install only cooling units that fall within that efficiency spectrum.

Furnaces and heat pumps are subject to the heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF) grading. This is the ratio of total heat output over the cold-weather months to total electricity used over the same period. DOE requires no heating unit that can not deliver at least 8.8 HSPF. Furnaces, meanwhile, are also rated by annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE). This metric tells users how well the unit converts fuel to heat. Mid-efficiency to high-efficiency gas or oil furnaces achieve over 90 percent. Installations of such furnaces bodes well for the heating bills of residents in New Haven and Auburn.

Maintenance

An HVAC unit will come off the assembly line conforming to high-performance efficiency standards. Time, however, can take a toll on the most elite heating/air-conditioning equipment. This is why Pro Comfort encourages customers to seek regular maintenance for their HVAC systems. This sort of ongoing evaluation and tweaking helps to keep the units in peak operating condition while preserving efficiency levels per heating & air conditioning green initiatives.
